| No more buckets full of cleaners! |
My friend and I were recently discussing our new found love of vinegar (for cleaning purposes) and how our husbands can't stand the smell of it! While we were talking the ironically unthinkable happens, her husband spills spaghetti sauce on his tie (oops!). As he stands up in utter frustration and rips his tie off I jokingly tell him that I have the perfect solution to clean his stain. He doubtfully hands me his tie and off I go with a gloating grin to spray some vinegar on it. Low and behold when I return the stain is gone. As he inspects the results he surprisingly agrees that it is pretty good even if it does stink. (I must say that I was a little nervous with my son looking over my shoulder praying that it would work so I didn't have to eat humble pie!)
We all joked that I should write a blog about my vinegar passion and all the things I clean with it. No joke, I love it. My slogan for this year and my life in general now is SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY!!! Using vinegar for all my cleaning has allowed me to get rid of the buckets full of cleaning agents that I would use for all the different cleaning jobs around my house.
Vinegar works great for cleaning all the different surfaces in my house, the toilet, the floors, the windows and mirrors, the counters, the tub and shower, furniture and even carpet stains. I also replaced “goo-gone” with vinegar. In the summertime it keeps the flies away. My friend also suggested using vinegar as a fabric softener. I am excited to continue discovering new ways to use it.
I know there are a lot of recipes out there for making a cleaning solution and I have made a few of them but the one I use now and find to be the best solution for me is the following:
2 cups HOT water
1 cup Vinegar
1/8 cup lemon juice
Dish soap ( I just squeeze as much as I can in the spray bottle after mixing the other ingredients together.)
Now, I couldn't very well leave a vinegar conversation without mentioning the Vinegaroon! My husband makes fun of me because every time vinegar comes up in conversation; I tell a story about the first time I ever saw a vinegaroon. It was nasty and let it suffice to say that I hate the little critters. I finally Googled it and found out that they are not some figment of my imagination as a child - they are for real! I was relieved to read that they do not bite, however they do spray a vinegar-like scent on their prey! I chose not to post a picture of one on here because they freak me out and I'm almost positive I'm not alone here! Enough about this gross little creature...Happy Cleaning!
